Beet dye.

I made a beet & goat cheese pasta salad this weekend. The beet juice color was so bright I was afraid stray little bits might stain the counter. I decided to experiment with trying to dye fabric with beet juice. I saved these little end pieces and stems in a bucket.

Then I boiled water and poured in the the stems. Then I submerged a white cotton shirt.

I let it soak a while, stirred, but when I took the shirt out, it didn't really hold the color. It probably would have worked better to use the water the beets were first cooked in. It just wasn't potent enough. Next time.
