Squash Drop

Today was the last Saturday Farmer's Market in Eugene. At noon there was a "squash drop," which means a man went very, very high on some piece of construction equipment and dropped big heirloom squashes to the ground. They exploded into big and little chunks. Inside were numbered ping-pong balls for kids to scramble for and redeem later. I picked up several large pieces of not-very-dirty squash, took 'em home, washed them, and stuck them in the crock pot while R. and I went on a hike. They were ready to eat when we returned! Add a little cinnamon and sour cream and you have a very simple dinner. The squash looked like a blue pumpkin from the outside.
