| Lots of red peppers to keep us through the winter (frozen!) |
| My refrigerator drawer--the only receptacle I own large enough for the job of blanching corn. |
Here is Rob and me at Magnolia Gardens near Charleston, South Carolina. We rung in the new year down there with my sister and parents, since Jessye is stationed there.
As of recently, my favorite hotel chain is Hampton Inn & Suites. It is impressively environmentally-conscious. Rob and I stayed there a night of our honeymoon, and we stayed at the Charleston, SC branch last weekend. Instead of giving you tiny plastic toiletry bottles, there are dispensers on the wall---so much less waste! No throwing out unused bottles!
In the breakfast room, all the silverware and plates are compostable. They only change your linens every 4 days (instead of each day) unless otherwise requested. There are messages encouraging conservation posted throughout the hotel.
And, their beds and linens are actually soft and comfortable! Plus, they serve hot, plain, whole oatmeal with toppings of your choice, instead of just those unappealing Quaker Oats individual packets that is half sugar/weird stuff and half quick oats. You've got my vote!
