In Saturday evening mass tonight, the priest quoted the line,
"There are two things money can't buy: true love, and home-grown tomatoes."
You see here the difference...homemade on the left, store-bought on the right.
The quote isn't totally true. In Eugene, Oregon, if you pay $4 a lb, you can get organic heirloom tomatoes from the farmer's market that definitely qualify as "home-grown." We don't, because if we are going to pay $4 a pound for something, it's probably grass-fed beef. Luckily, our tomato plants are doing okay this year. As well as can be expected for this climate, at least.
I cut these up for one of my favorite summertime dishes: Tomato Tart.
In other news, my sweet potato plant just keeps growing. It is now massive. The other one only has 4 leaves, I have no idea why.
